A Golden Halloween!
HAPPY HALLOWEEN, YA’LL! What did you choose for your costume this year?
Halloween is my absolute FAVORITE holiday (aside from my birthday. Duh.) It’s amazing: filled with candy, costumes and chance to dress up and be someone else for a day. Who doesn’t love (need!) that once in a while? It keeps things interesting and is great for creativity.
Looking back, I’m pretty surprised that the Girls didn’t have an episode dedicated to Halloween. How much fun would that have been?! Lucky for us, there was no shortage of episodes where the Girls dress up. From birds of all kinds to cats, cast members in community theatre productions and nuns, it’s hard to narrow it down to one favorite. I picked two that I loved:
It’s Spring Break, and Dorothy’s school puts on a series of children’s plays based on books to try to get kids to read. When the entire children’s cast is quarantined, it has to be re-case with adults. Naturally, who better to fill these rolls than Dorothy, Rose, Blanche and Sophia?
FREIDA CLAXTON – a brief mention of Halloween (and a great idea for a costume!)
You may remember Freida Claxton is one of the most miserable people in the neighborhood. In the episode, “It’s a Miserable Life”, the Girls are petitioning to prevent a beautiful, 100 year old oak tree from being cut down. The three happens to live on Freida Claxton’s property and she “could care less if the city wants to cut it down.” She’s cranky, mean and has no interest in any relationships. The Girls all agree that Mrs. Claxton is a miserable, “rotten human being,” but Rose refuses to believe there “is such a thing as a totally rotten human being.”
Dorothy: Come on; last Halloween half the kids in the neighborhood wore Freida Claxton costumes!
In the end, Rose *kind of* kills her when they all go before the judge and Rose has had enough of Claxton’s crappy attitude. She puts her in her place, and we come to learn that her place is, apparently, six feet under. I guess there *is* some level of horror in this episode!
Granted, it’s a quick mention but it WOULD make for a great costume! And just think, if you DO happen to be in a bad mood on Halloween (or you’re just a grumpy person) it all works out in your favor! You barely have to get into character!
In the coming weeks I’ll be rolling out some new designs for my Etsy shop so be sure to check and see if any of the phrases speak to you!
I hope you have a very festive Halloween!
