Happy Birthday week,
For the record
I am a lover of birthdays. I love them, I love celebrating them, going to birthday parties, finding themes for birthday parties and the awesome notion that once a year it's socially acceptable to celebrate yourself and do whatever you want, and everyone else rallies. (Though I, personally, feel we should all that do it well more than once a year, but I digress...)
I am an a firm believer that regular birthdays should get a week for celebration, and big birthdays get a month. Betty turned 96 this year because she's a freakin' champ and bada**. Since I know not everyone loves birthdays as much as I do I'll keep this celebration to a week on social media. I won't go into detail about her life, but if you're interested I loved and highly recommend her book, Here We Go Again.
Here are some awesome quotes from the queen herself which pretty much sum up why we love her so much:
It's your outlook on life that counts. If you take yourself lightly and don't take yourself too seriously, pretty soon you can find the humor in our every day lives. And sometimes it can be a lifesaver.
Do you ever catch yourself in a moment where you wonder why things, in general, feel very heavy? I find myself in those moments every once in a while, wondering why I'm always taking a majority of things SO seriously. I take my work and my role as a Mom very seriously, but as far as the other stuff? I think I can find more humor in the rest.
Why do people say, 'Grow some balls?' Balls are weak and sensitive! If you really wanna get tough, grow a vagina. Those things take a pounding!
Truer words were never spoken.
I don't care who anybody sleeps with. If a couple has been together all that time - and there are gay relationships that are more solid than some heterosexual ones - I think it's fine if they want to get married.
The lady is 96, and her views are more progressive than some people I know in their 30s! She accepts change with grace, and an open mind and heart.
Butterflies are like women - we may look pretty and delicate but baby, we can fly through a hurricane.
Truth bomb right here.
Her outlook on life is such a breath of fresh air, especially during such challenging times in our nation. I don't believe that she turns a blind eye to the problems we face, but I do think she's able to separate from them better than many. Personally, I aspire to practice and cultivate a similar approach to life as I age.
Cheers to you, Betty White! I love you, and I can't wait to see what the next 96 years will bring!
In friendship and cheesecake,
